In yet another random act of federalism, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called for a special legislative session to consider legislation countering vaccine and mask mandates.
The move comes after a series of vaccine mandates by Joe Biden, which DeSantis says he’s had enough of.
The proposals include the provision of reemployment assistance to those who lose their jobs due to failure to comply with an employer’s vaccine mandate, the Epoch Times reports. Under another proposal, those who have an adverse reaction to the vaccine would be eligible for workers’ compensation.
Per another proposal, employers who fire workers based on the vaccine mandate would be prohibited from enforcing non-compete agreements against the employees. Additionally, another provision would require employers to provide religious and medical exemptions.
“We have an opportunity here to take additional action, and I think we have to do it,” DeSantis said. “I think we have got to stand up for people's jobs and their livelihoods.”
“To add protections for people in the state of Florida, and that's something that cannot wait until the regular legislative session next year, it needs to happen soon,” DeSantis added. “We want to make sure that individuals in Florida have their livelihoods and their jobs protected.”
