Progressive “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio Cortez brought politics from Washington to New York City, flaunting a dress at the Met Gala smeared with her most prized message: “Tax the Rich.”

The New York Congresswoman joined other team-left leaders like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio at the event Monday, which she claimed her attendance at was “her responsibility.”

The message on her dress was ironic, considering a single ticket for the event, which boasts the most elite celebrities, racks up to between $30 and $35 thousand.

“We need to have a conversation in this country about working families,” AOC said when asked to comment on her dress and its message, per Bloomberg.

She also shared a comment early Tuesday on Twitter.

“...Before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public,” she tweeted. “I was one of several in attendance this evening.”

To no surprise, the dress received heaps of backlash on social media.
