Watch out Macy’s, Target and Dillard’s…Jeffrey Bezos is a man with a plan to take over department store retail.
Amazon plans to open several large retail locations in the U.S. that will operate like department stores in efforts to help the company increase sales in clothing, household items, electronics and others.
Some of the first Amazon department stores are expected to be in Ohio and California, and will be around 30,000 square feet, which is smaller than a typical department store. The stores will offer items from top consumer brands and will be similar to scaled-down formats that Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and other department stores have opened, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Amazon is now the largest clothing seller, surpassing Walmart.
