The FDA approved a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for immunocompromised Americans late Thursday in efforts to better protect them from the Delta variant.
The extra shot will become available to those who have received an organ transplant or suffered from certain cancers or disorders that weaken the immune system, Just the News reports.
Approximately 3 percent of Americans fall into this category, according to officials.
“This action is about ensuring our most vulnerable... are better protected against COVID-19,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said ahead of the announcement.
