Following an emotional and rare court appearance, a California judge denied Britney Spears’ attorney’s request to remove her father, Jaime, as co-conservator of her estate. 

As reported by The Federalist, Spears’ lawyer, Sam Ingham, filed for the court to relieve Jaime of his 13 year hold on his celebrity daughter. Ingham requested Bessemer Trust to be the sole conservator. The same request was made and denied in November, however, the financial institution did become a co-conservator in February. 

The latest request was made on June 25, when Spears unraveled 13 years of trauma, begging the judge to end her father’s legal control over her life, as previously reported by Human Events News.

“I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized,” Spears said in a 23-minute speech that was played to the courtroom. “I just want my life back.” 

Indeed, this was the first time Spears spoke out about the traumas brought forth by the conservatorship. 

Her father’s concerns over her mental health led him to petition the court for legal authority over his daughter. 

Spears called for a termination of the conservatorship without her “having to be evaluated.” 

“I shouldn’t be in a conservatorship if I can work. The laws need to change,” she added. “I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I don’t feel like I can live a full life.” 

The next hearing is scheduled for July 14.
