The right to bear arms is sacred, and endowed by God to every citizen from birth.

Most Americans recognize that it’s not dependent on some old-fashioned notion about arming citizen militias. It’s a fundamental right that enables the people to maintain a check against the near-limitless power of government, which is granted by the people in the first place.
Democrats, particularly the field of 2020 presidential candidates, disregard our 2nd Amendment rights for political gain, demagoguing about violence and the illegal use of arms. If, Heaven forbid, one of these 2nd Amendment deniers were to win the White House in 2020, he or she would strip this sacred right from us without hesitation.
I had the pleasure of spending my weekend with some of the Americans most fervently committed to defending our 2nd Amendment rights at the NRA’s Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.

In my conversations with these activists, I was struck by one unshakable impression: no matter what rage the Democrats unleash on defenders of the Constitution, and no matter how strenuously they advocate the same failed gun control policies they have for half a century, they will not win.

The essential determination that, as Thomas Jefferson put it, “No Freeman Shall Ever Be Debarred the Use of Arms” runs in a straight, unbroken line from the ancient English traditions of liberty, through the Founding Fathers, to the men and women of the MAGA Movement today.
The strength of that spirit, however, must not blind us to the dark storm of gun-grabbing demagoguery gathering among our opponents.
The pro-gun rights victories we’ve secured through painstaking effort over the decade since the Supreme Court’s landmark DC v. Heller decision do not mean that our work is done. The left is more determined than ever to roll back this fundamental freedom.
To understand that, you needn’t look any further than the anti-gun hysteria that has seemingly become a requirement for seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
California leftist Representative Eric Swalwell, the man who once casually endorsed the use of nuclear weapons on Americans who resisted gun confiscation, set the tone while announcing his campaign.
Swalwell would confiscate 15 million of the most popular types of guns in America, just as an opening gambit in his war on gun owners.
We know from the examples of the United Kingdom, Australia, and elsewhere that such proposals are always the beginning, not the end.
Once the precedent of confiscation is set, gun grabbers will not stop until the culture of lawful and responsible firearm ownership is irreparably broken.
It would be one thing if these sentiments were confined to long-shot extremists like Swalwell, but sadly, they are not.
While she has advocated for gun control, Kamala Harris made a revealing admission: she herself owns a handgun for self-defense.

What’s more alarming than Harris’s utter hypocrisy — believing that she has a unique right to protect herself because she “was a career prosecutor” — is the far-left’s reaction.
In a USA Today op-ed, TV host Peter Funt argued that merely owning a handgun should disqualify Harris from the nomination.
But what of the supposed Democrat “moderates” like Joe Biden, who may well try to convince American gun owners that he’s one of them on the campaign trail?
Whatever conciliatory rhetoric Joe Biden throws our way, we cannot forget the unequivocally anti-gun record that earned him an abysmal 8 per cent rating from the NRA when he was last in the U.S. Senate.
This is also the man who once argued that we shouldn’t have a problem with banning semi-automatic weapons, because we can protect ourselves by shooting a “double-barrel shotgun” off of our porches to scare away intruders.
My father was joined on the NRA’s stage Friday by several men and women who know firsthand what dangerous nonsense that is. Three different “good guys with guns” told their harrowing tales of being forced to use their legally-owned weapons, including the demonized AR-15, to defend their lives and those of their loved ones.
Just 48 hours later, two more heroes joined their ranks. Army Iraq War veteran Oscar Stewart and off-duty Border Patrol agent Jonathan Morales used their training — and a legally owned handgun — to help end an anti-Semitic terrorist’s rampage at a San Diego-area synagogue.
One Jewish woman was murdered in this horrific attack, but it could have been so much worse. As Stewart himself noted, “it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.”
I write now not only as President Trump’s son, but also as a dedicated sportsman and gun owner: we must maintain the momentum of the most pro-gun administration in history.

Since my father’s inauguration, we are closing in on 100 strict constitutionalist judges confirmed to the federal bench, with more to come as we battle to end judicial activists’ “progressive” attempts to interpret away the plain meaning of the 2nd Amendment.

During the NRA conference, the President was also able to announce the end of one of the gravest threats to gun rights that Americans have ever faced, the UN “Arms Trade Treaty” to which Barack Obama committed our country.
That ill-conceived agreement could have forced America to adopt European-style gun control through the back door, but against the wishes of anti-gun foreigners, my father wisely refused.
“We will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone,” he said. “We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your 2nd Amendment freedom.”
Contrary to the left’s invented rationale, support for the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with the interests of the gun industry. Quite to the contrary, this administration’s commitment to gun rights has ended the panic buying that began in response to President Obama’s hostile rhetoric, hurting gun sales.

The real reason my father and I — and millions of other Americans — believe in the 2nd Amendment has to do with what the President called “our sacred charge...to preserve the freedoms that our ancestors gave their very lives to secure.”
That is a charge that cannot be entrusted to any of the Democrats who trample on our sacred rights, and who would swiftly work to revoke our right to bear arms should any of them take the oath of office as president.
