Human prop alert: little girl from Newtown to attend State of the Union as Pelosi’s guest

The Democrat push to fill the audience of the upcoming State of the Union address with human props for Gun Control Theater will reportedly include a little girl from the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, who will attend as a guest of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Apparently the Democrats are not interested in inviting children who are only alive because their parents were responsible gun owners who defended them with legal firearms. No surprises there, even though it would be easy to fill the entire SOTU gallery with such people.

Do Republicans get to have human props too?  It would be a good idea to bring some of the kids Barack Obama is crushing with debt, or the ones who won’t have health insurance because of his health-care disaster, or maybe the children of people who lost their jobs as a result of his economic policies.  Easy to fill the gallery with them, too.

As we abandon reason and adult discourse entirely, this could spiral into a human prop “arms race,” in which every politician rounds up a few adorable tykes to take the stage and convince America that the latest policy initiative is “for the children.”  Soon we’ll have mobs of kindergarten students, Cub Scouts, and paperboys jostling for space on every stage.  We could dispense with much of our legislative system, instead choosing random letters from small children to guide our policy decisions.

Why is anyone surprised that a government which won’t speak to us as adults doesn’t treat us as such?
