Neither Party Stands Against Illegal Immigration: It’s Tea Time

While Democrats are the worse offenders, Republicans bow to business over this travesty. Will America's party take up the cause of our welfare state and jobless low-skilled workers?

The fight against illegal immigration has accelerated over the last year from Arizona to, most recently, Alabama.  States across the country have taken the responsibility that federal government has relinquished.  Regular polling reveals that a majority of Americans favor halting the flow of illegal aliens across the border.  Despite the wishes of the American people, neither party has effectively stood for the defense of our borders and our sovereignty.

In the 24 years since President Reagan signed an amnesty bill into law, the federal government has failed to protect the borders.  The situation on the U.S.-Mexico border has become anarchy.  Drug trafficking, human trafficking and massive illegal immigration have caused a volatile situation.  On March 30, 2010, an American rancher by the name of Robert Krentz was found shot to death on his 34,000-acre ranch in Arizona.  The local sheriff’s department suspected Krentz was killed by illegal aliens, and Arizona demanded that the state take action in response to the federal government’s nonchalant attitude on the issue.  At the time of the murder, Tucson, Ariz., had become the crime capital of America.  From 2007 to 2009, the city of half a million had more than 1,000 kidnappings and nearly 7,000 cases of assault.

Appealing to the will of her constituents, Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law on April 23, 2010.  The controversial law made it a crime for an illegal alien to be in the state of Arizona—shocking!  Despite the attempts by several liberal groups to boycott Arizona, all measures failed.  According to the Phoenix News Times, resorts saw a major tourism increase compared with 2009.  Several other states such as Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina have followed Arizona in protecting their citizens and the sovereignty of the United States.  Following SB 1070, the democratically controlled lame-duck session attempted to pass the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, a bill that would have granted citizenship to an estimated 2 million illegal minors living in the country.  Due to a grassroots outcry from the American people, Republicans who had previously supported the bill as well as a handful of moderate Democrats, flipped positions and defeated the legislation in the Senate.  Following the defeat of the DREAM Act, the governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley, signed a bill granting instate tuition for illegal aliens.  The people of Maryland responded by collecting more than 109,000 signatures to put a repeal of the law on the ballot in 2012.

Regardless of the grassroots efforts to enforce the borders of the U.S., neither party has officially endorsed significant measures to this end.  The Democrat Party is by far the worse offender.  It is to protecting the border what Casey Anthony is to ideal parenting.  The Justice Department under Attorney General Eric Holder is suing to block the pro-enforcement laws in states such as Arizona.  His co-conspirators are the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).  Maureen Costello, SPLC director of Teaching Tolerance, wrote an op-ed in the Huffington Post calling Alabama’s enforcement measures, “the new Jim Crow.”  This is always the trump card of the liberal establishment and the Democratic Party.  When all else fails, delegitimize your opponents by calling them racists.

The greatest insult comes from the Democratic Party's leader, President Obama, specifically in the way he handled a recent case.  It involved Humberto Leal, an illegal immigrant and Mexican nationalist who was found guilty of the rape and murder of a 16-year-old.  After the brutal rape, Leal bashed the victim's head in with a piece of asphalt.  A Texas court found Leal guilty and gave him the death penalty.  The Obama administration, however, acted in usual liberal fashion when dealing with an ethnic child rapist and murderer.  It appealed to the Supreme Court to delay the execution until Congress could pass a law that would require court reviews in cases in which condemned foreign nationals did not receive help from their consulates.   President Obama stated that the execution of a savage murderer would result in harm for Americans overseas.  The court ruled 5 to 4 against the President.  Leal’s final words on the day of his execution:  “Viva la Mexico!”

The Republican Party is not as bad as the Democratic party, which caves to ethnic lobbies such as La Raza.  While a few Republican legislatures have passed pro-enforcement laws, most Republicans have been under the thumb of Big Business.  States with Republican-controlled state legislatures and Republican governors of states such as Texas, Utah, Idaho and Florida have all folded under the pressure of business to not put in place enforcement measures.  The Republican Party ended slavery 150 years ago, only to be at the whim of lobbyists who fight even now for cheap slave labor.  None of the mainline Republican candidates has made immigration an issue in the 2012 election at all, particularly neglecting to fit it into the larger problem of the costs to the welfare state and unemployment of America’s low-skilled labor force.

At the National Council of La Raza’s annual convention, President Obama vowed to “keep up the fight” for amnesty and against enforcement.  Not one Republican presidential candidate rebuked him on the issue.  As columnist Ann Coulter has said, “There are a lot of bad Republicans.  There are no good Democrats.”  Immigration proves that point.  Tea Party, our nation turns its lonely eye to you.
