The Old Mistaken Identity Play

From White House visitors to Communist sympathizers, the Left use the mistaken identity ruse to hide their actions.

The White House last November released a guest list of 110 names and 481 visits as part of the President’s Volunteer Disclosure Policy.

Names on the White House guest list included Malik Zulu Shabazz, William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Moore, Robert Kelly (a.k.a. R Kelly) and ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis.

Even more intriguing is the fact that this is just a small portion of the multitude of guests who have trod into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue since Obama’s inauguration; imagine the names they are NOT revealing.

In January, after receiving some questions about their colorful guest list, the White House finally gave an explanation: mistaken identity.

Somehow, another man by the name of Malik Zulu Shabazz—not the anti-Semitic, black nationalist, leader of the New Black Panther Party—was invited to the White House. And, another Jeremiah Wright, along with another Bertha Lewis, actually visited the White House. According to the White House, this is just one big misunderstanding. After all, Malik Zulu Shabazz is such a common name in the U.S. and there are probably a good dozen “Bertha Lewis’s” in any phone book. As outrageous as this “mistaken identity” play is, it is nothing new.

In 1954, Annie Lee Moss appeared before the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Sen. Joe McCarthy (R.-Wis.). With evidence from the testimony of Mary Markward, an FBI agent who infiltrated the D.C. Communist Party to become its treasurer, and the D.C. Party’s own records it seemed clear that Annie Lee Moss had been a registered Communist Party member.

Even while stating her home address she incriminated herself by supplying the same address that appeared in the D.C. Party’s records. She portrayed herself as a poor, frail little lady who could barely read but somehow she managed to thrive as a licensed, successful real estate agent and when she was brought before PSI she was working as a signal corps decoding secret messages in the Pentagon.

When a card-carrying commie is handling top-secret documents, one might think that would be reason for concern. So how did Annie Lee Moss get off the hook? She did what the Obama White House is doing now: claim mistaken identity.

She claimed that there were three Annie Lee Mosses in the D.C. telephone book. Of course, this information should be irrelevant because there was only one Annie Lee Moss living at the address appearing in the D.C. Communist Party’s records and given by the accused herself. However, the image of a feeble old lady being victimized by McCarthy’s sloppy methods made for a great clip for the dishonest liberal hack Edward R. Murrow to bombard his viewers with.

When the FBI checked up on Moss’s claim of “mistaken identity” it discovered an Anna Moss, an Annie Moss and one Annie Lee Moss. And, only one of the three, Annie Lee Moss (the accused) resided at the address sited in Communist Party records.

The Obama White House’s “mistaken identity” tactic is nothing new; the left has been using this tool for over five decades to protect anti-American radicals. They are able to get away with this today for the same reason they were able to get away with it 56 years ago: too many so-called “conservatives” and so-called “Republicans” lack the testicular fortitude to do anything about it.
