The Senate voted today to override the president’s veto of a popular $23 billion water resources bill. The vote was 79 to 14. On Tuesday the House voted 361 to 54 to override the veto.

The bill as Sen. James Inhofe (R.-Okla) wrote in a HUMAN EVENTS column last week was not a “spending bill” as Bush called it but a bill to “authorize and modify critical projects in the areas of waterways navigation, hurricane and storm damage reduction, flood damage reduction, and environmental restoration nationwide. The bill also includes many important policy provisions for the Army Corps of Engineers to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the current process.”

This was the fifth Bush veto — but the first to be overridden. Below is the roll call vote detail listed by state.
