Hillary will soon be introducing a bill that proposes to link Congressional pay increases to increases in the federal minimum wage.
Mrs. Clinton is, of course like most liberals, a staunch advocate of raising the federal minimum wage, and has cosponsored a bill to increase it from $5.15 an hour to $7.25.
She is also, like most independently wealthy politicians, opposed to any cost-of-living pay increases for members of Congress, so she kills two birds with one stone with this proposed legislation. Her plan is to require the federal minimum wage to be increased by the same percentage amount as Congressional salaries every year.
In her press release, she noted how the federal minimum wage would have increased over the years if it were treated the same way as congressional pay (up to between $6.51 and $7.48 an hour). Sen. Clinton's bill stands no chance of passage, but it will allow her to demagogue on these two issues just in time for the 2006 and 2008 elections.
