Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R.-R.I.) may be forced to give Judge Alito a fair hearing and a fair vote – whether he likes it or not.
The Family Research Council launched a radio campaign ad today throughout the state of Rhode Island that directs voters to call Chafee’s office and demand he give Alito the chance for an up-and-down vote.
Pointing out his praiseworthy background, education and judicial record, the ad insists Alito be treated fairly, saying:
“Now a handful of special interest groups say that’s not enough. They say they’ll do ‘whatever it takes’ to stop him. They question his commitment to civil rights. They say there are too many Catholics on the court. Haven’t we been down that ugly road before?”
