Democrats continue to flip-flop their opinions of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. During a Senate hearing of the Committee on the Judiciary in 1990, Sen. Ted Kennedy (D.-MA) couldn’t praise Alito enough:

"You [Alito] have obviously had a very distinguished record, and I certainly commend you for long service in the public interest. I think it is a very commendable career and I am sure you will have a successful one as a judge."

Following the nomination of Justice Alito to the Supreme Court this morning, Kennedy vehemently dismissed the President’s choice in a press release:

"Rather than selecting a nominee for the good of the nation and the court, President Bush has picked a nominee whom he hopes will stop the massive hemorrhaging of support on his Right Wing. This is a nomination based on weakness, not on strength.

"[The President] put forth a nominee with a troubling record on the rights and freedoms important to America's families."
