Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have co-authored a USA Today piece on loose nukes, the terrorists that seek them, and the emergence of new nuclear powers. Ordinarily, this is grim stuff, but their deep thoughts left me wondering only one thing: Shouldn’t there be a Bulwer-Lytton award for nonfiction as well?

Gems include:

The administration has allowed a situation where both terrorists such as Osama bin Laden and the nuclear materials they seek are on the loose. It is only a matter of time before they find one another. The reality of this peril is not fiction.

Then there’s:

We can no longer outsource national security to the European Union or nations such as China.

Or my favorite:

When the threat is this great, it is not enough to list the ways the Bush administration has been letting America down.
