The Kerry campaign will need serious damage control after news leaked out about a bombshell new book by the man who took over John Kerry's Swift Boat in Vietnam. The book charges that two of Kerry's three Purple Heart decorations resulted from self-inflicted wounds-not enemy fire-and that Kerry gave aid and comfort to the enemy even while he was still in the military. These new accusations are outlined in detail for the first time in Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry, by John O'Neill and Jerome Corsi. The book, to be released by Regnery (a HUMAN EVENTS sister company) later this month, spiked to #2 on Amazon after the "Drudge Report" leaked some of the book's stunning accusations on the very day that Kerry accepted the nomination in Boston. While Kerry was showcasing a handful of vets who support him, hundreds of Swift Boat vets were straining to get the truth out about Kerry's war record. Take William Shumadine, a Swift Boat vet pictured in one of Kerry's misleading campaign ads, who says: "John Kerry's use of a photograph with his 19 comrades, with knowledge that 11 of them condemn him and six cannot or do not want to be involved, is a complete misrepresentation to the public and a total fraud."
