DAVID KRAYDEN: Tim Walz can't leave Minnesota politics soon enough

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) declared no contest in his bid to seek a third term “leading” his state over the threat of a fraud scandal. Walz, whom we always believed had no shame for the outrageous claims and chronic mendacity that surrounded his personal and political life, finally thought he wasn’t going to beat the latest revelation of the overt corruption in Minnesota that has thrived during his two-term tenure as governor. The fact that this scandal is deeper than many at first suspected, is probably the most visceral reason for Walz deciding to call it a day.

When 90 people in the Feeding Our Future scam are charged with stealing money that was supposed to go to starving children, well maybe even Walz can see the writing on the wall. And the political base of support Walz has had among the immigrant community may be coming to an end after Trump suspended temporary protected status for Somalis.

Walz's reaction to the recent shooting in Minneapolis of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis sees him interfering with the investigation, claiming the ICE officer was at fauly before an investigtion has begun, and suggesting it should be a state and not a federal case. Walz's reaction is emblematic of a politician and governor who has steadfastly opposed law and order and treated ICE like it was the criminal organization while he has consistently championed illegal immigration and even demanded special status and programs for illegals that American citizens are not entitled to like taxpayer funded benefits.

It is entirely appropriate that Walz is going down fighting over this case because it represents where his interests have always been invested: not in law-abiding, hard-working Americans but in woke elites and the identity politics that have kept so many poor to mediocre Democratic politicians in power.

He was still prepared to forge ahead where no political clown had gone before as late as the fall. “In September, I announced that I would run for a historic third term as Minnesota’s Governor..." he said at the time.

"But as I reflected on this moment with my family and my team over the holidays, I came to the conclusion that I can’t give a political campaign my all. Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences. So I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work," Walz said.

Oh, it’s all about not getting distracted from prosecuting those horrible criminals who have found a comfortable home in Walz’s Minnesota! Of course.

If you ever have a moment’s doubt about Vice President JD Vance’s honor and abilities, just consider an America with Walz in his stead. It could have happened if Walz had not been defeated as running mate to his political soulmate former Vice President Kamala Harris. During their often sophomoric and pathetic presidential campaign, it was at times arduous or just impossible to decide who was the more incompetent messenger of word salads or the worst emissary of incomprehensible drivel.

Where do you begin with Walz? This was a guy who was enamored with the violent riots that tore Minneapolis apart to protest the death of George Floyd to such an extent that he delayed calling the cops. His wife, Gwen, kept the windows open during the ruckus so that she could smell the stench of burning tires, reminding everyone of just how much these two leftists remained a political team that ate and drank woke ideology.

Walz loved communism, especially the Chinese variant that thrived under Chairman Mao Zedong. He spent 10 years traveling to China, working as an exchange teacher who was more enthusiastic about the communist system than his native-born peers. His first trip in 1989 occurred during the infamous Tiananmen Square protests that resulted in students being liquidated and all dissent suppressed.

He married Gwen Whipple on the anniversary of the massacre, with Gwen noting that Walz “wanted to have a date he’ll always remember,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to one of Walz’s students, “There was no doubt he was a true believer. I’ve been trying to tell people this for 30 years. Nobody wanted to listen. At night, we’d go out, we’d walk the street fairs. We’d be buying souvenirs and Tim was always buying the Little Red Book. He said he gave them as gifts … I saw him buy at least a dozen on the trip,” he said.

There was never anything to like about Walz. During Covid, he established a snitch line to catch people violating the abusive and dictatorial mandates of the period. It was exactly like they would do and did in China.

Perhaps Walz’s worst moment came when he continued to insist he was a military hero instead of a guy who ducked service in Iraq as part of his National Guard unit because he decided he wanted to run for Congress. Despite that inglorious end of his military career, Walz repeatedly used the title "Command Sergeant Major" to describe his military rank and appointment. It was all bogus.

When the lies were exposed, Walz insisted that he had “misspoke,” an excuse he would constantly use during the 2016 campaign as he became a walking, talking embarrassment for the Harris campaign – an extremely difficult achievement when you consider what a comical spectacle Harris made of herself.

So while it is somewhat incomprehensible how someone like Walz becomes a successful politician at all, we are at least grateful that he is at least saying adieu to public life.
