Michigan State Rep Bill G. Schuette joined Human Events Daily on Tuesday, where he and host Jack Posobiec spoke on the closely watched Senate race between Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers. Democrats, they agreed, must know they’re “in trouble” because they are “dusting off” Barack Obama and sending him out on the campaign trail.
Posobiec said that some in media believe El-Sayed has “the inside track” in the race for the Senate, but added that “it seems woke 1 and woke 2 are not exactly talking to each other because apparently it turns out that El-Sayed is having some problems in Wayne County with the African American population. Some of the Hispanic population isn’t interested out there.”
Schuette said he was “definitely hearing that,” adding that a colleague of his in the state House who represents Detroit had started “the Democrats for Mike Rogers.” He said that she “was one of the first candidates to come out and say Abdul El-Sayed is not going to deliver for the city of Detroit and for our community.” He added that he’s heard there are “a lot more Mike Rogers yard signs than they've ever seen in the city.”
“It’s a serious issue for the El-Sayed campaign,” he added.
Posobiec noted that this was a “serious” issue for the Democrat’s campaign “because you're talking about a block of really potentially important swing voters there.” He noted that El-Sayed is from Wayne County.
Schuette said, “that's where his only public service experience has been, in Wayne County, and that should tell you something when those are the same voters, he's having difficulty to win over.”
He said that while it was all but likely Democrats win in Detroit, a historically blue city, it would “make a difference” if Rogers could cut into the margin by which El-Sayed wins.
“It's not that hard to see why, you know. Abdul El-Sayed, he can't define what a socialist is, but he also can't define what a woman is, and that's something that really doesn't resonate in the city of Detroit and in Wayne County, where, you know, people don't want to have biological males playing in women's sports.”
Posobiec asked, “Do you think it's something where the type of politics that he's embraced, and really this, and for him specifically, because he came up sort of as an influencer so much in that far-left space, it just doesn't connect with voters?”
Schuette said he was “absolutely right,” adding that El-Sayed has been caught on tape “saying a whole bunch of crazy things." He also noted his friendship with far-left communist streamer Hasan Piker or his advocacy for a “government takeover of our healthcare system” which would eliminate the good healthcare coverage union workers have in the state.
Posobiec later added, “And what are we seeing now is, of course, we just got the news that in response to this, and of course, you know we must be in trouble because they're dusting off Barack Obama and sending him up to Michigan to campaign with him.”
Schuette said the move was “pretty funny because again, this is the most hypocritical candidate in the history of the state of Michigan. He's on record talking about how bad of a president Obama was, how he let down the progressive movement, how he was a failure as a president, and now he's trying to embrace Obama because he's realizing he has a serious issue with voters in the city of Detroit, where Obama is popular.”
“So I mean, this is a guy who his own sister has said is willing to say anything he needs to to get elected. And how do you trust somebody like that? How can you have any faith that that will be a person who is going to stand up for you in the United States Senate?”
