ALLUM BOKHARI to JACK POSOBIEC: The 'permanent bureaucracy' wants to control AI tech because it's 'undermining their power'

"The underlying technology, be it social media, be it AI, is trending towards the disruption of the establishment, and that is, and the empowerment of ordinary people, and that is a good thing."

Allum Bokhari, the managing director for Foundation for Freedom Online, spoke with Jack Posobiec on Friday’s edition of Human Events daily about how the "permanent bureaucracy" is threatened by technology's trend towards "disruption of the establishment" and how conservatives should "separate our criticism of people who sometimes run tech, people who sometimes censor tech, and the underlying technology itself."

“Allum, you've got a new op-ed up on an incredible website called humanevents.com. You're saying that conservatives must not abandon the tech industry and AI to political wolves. Tell us about it,” Posobiec said.

Bokhari said he has spent time covering big tech, exposing how these companies “colluded with non-profits and the media to censor political speech.”

“But I think we’re missing something with the current round of criticism of big tech, which is increasingly coming from the left, especially all the stuff about data centers and AI apocalypse.”

He said his criticism of big tech a decade ago “was never about the underlying technology. I always thought the underlying technology of social media was very, very good because it disrupted the legacy media. It gave ordinary people a voice. It was a threat to the establishment’s power. And my criticism of big tech was joining with the establishment, joining with the deep state to, you know, to censor people and, you know, sort of undermine the very revolution they were creating.”

He said he was pleased to see figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg “realized their error and stopped the censorship.” Regarding his op-ed, Bokhari said it's about how “big tech has been bad to conservatives in the past and perhaps they don't trust them because of that, but they need you know, we need to understand that it's a good thing that the industry has moved over that they've abandoned censorship number one and that they've embraced their role as disruptors of the establishment as many of these leading tech figures now have.”

“And now things have changed in another degree because the people who are trying to undermine tech and destroy tech and regulate tech are all people in the permanent bureaucracy, in the European Union, in the media, in the NGO industrial complex," Bokhari said.

“They're the ones who want to control big tech now because they recognize that tech is undermining their power, they undermine the power of the media, and I think the AI industry is going to undermine their power even more because it undermines the ability of managerial elites to keep a monopoly on information and, you know, to govern by complexity. AI destroys complexity.

"It also undermines Hollywood. It undermines big animation studios. You'll soon be able to create a Pixar movie based on with a few prompts. This is horrendous for Hollywood gatekeepers who only want your kids to see, you know, woke movies when they turn on the TV or go to the cinema.

"These are all massive threats. So control over information. So I think we need to separate our criticism of people who sometimes run tech, people who sometimes censor tech, and the underlying technology itself. The point of this article I've written for Human Events is that the underlying technology, be it social media, be it AI, is trending towards the disruption of the establishment, and that is, and the empowerment of ordinary people, and that is a good thing."
