The story from the Boston Globe was propelled to X virality by anti-DEI watchdog Robby Starbuck, but unlike the virtue-signaling corporations he has helped to deliver a comeuppance to, there is no redemption in the cards for Greenfield, Massachusetts’ Last Ditch Bar.
It is equal parts comedy and tragedy, depending on the perspective, and quite possibly the scariest thing ever written involving a clown that goes by “it” — or else, at the very least, the unpublished prequel to Stephen King’s Pennywise saga.
A summary can hardly do justice to the full read from the Globe, but here goes. Stop me if you’ve heard this one:
In the year 2025, three gender-confused housemates (one of whom used the pronouns it/its) decided to open a dive bar in a western Massachusetts town, not far from a place known as “Lesbianville, U.S.A.”
In this particular region, “every bar is a lesbian bar,” according to one resident. But if their market research for filling a particular niche demand fell short, their business plan only got worse.
Their bar for “dykes, transsexuals, gender freaks, workers, and their friends” would charge a cover, but only for those who could afford to pay it and felt like doing so.
“Poor and unhoused people are welcome in the space,” they said.
Following an incident in which local police reportedly entered the bar as part of a drug investigation, the owners also clarified that “we will never welcome police or any law enforcement into the space.”
The biggest catch of all was the dress code. In the year 2025, although no COVID cases had been reported in Greenfield for more than a year at least, they included in their list of “norms” a mandatory masking policy.
But as business began to slow down, they implemented a one-night-only “mask optional” policy that triggered a firestorm amongst their unhinged clientele.
After getting flamed on social media with nearly 450 comments — including the gem “I hope your venue gets firebombed for robbing my fellow immunocompromised people of their Saturday plans just to scrape extra revenue from ablists” — the bar issued an apology.
However, the Instagram post, which forgot to supply alt text for the visually impaired, only exacerbated tensions.
Meanwhile, it must be noted, two of the original business partners had bailed on the business, including one who went to clown school, saddling the remaining partner with paying off a $50,000 business loan.
After destroying her credit score, working four jobs and living in her truck for six months, the owner cried during a community meeting with a licensed therapist, “I never really wanted to do this. I don’t think I’m doing a very good job.”
But rather than show pity, one online troll who had Zoomed into the meeting chided her for using her allotted time to “to spill tears and center your feelings” calling it “incredibly racist and deflecting behavior.”
After failing to reach any resolutions during the 4-hour struggle session, the same critic declined to attend any follow-up meetings, citing the amount of unpaid “emotional and physical labor” that had gone into trolling the bar’s owner and staff.
The troll, who was black, then accused the white therapist of being “incredibly disingenuous and racist” for presuming otherwise.
The troll, a “a gender-expansive lesbian and uses he/him pronouns” told the Globe that he lived about 50 miles south of Greenfield and had visited the bar “seven or eight times” but refused to return until it was under new leadership.
As the story ended, the remaining owner revealed plans to “co-operatize” the bar in order to reduce her financial liability. Still, she shrugged off the hard lesson learned about trying to cater to and appease her cohort in the unhinged woke left: “That’s the price you pay to be in community.”
But with no lessons learned and no consequences paid by those who are unwilling and unable to accept accountability for themselves, the story doesn’t really end there.
As RedState reported, things took yet another strange turn Wednesday, after the initial story broke, when Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Dark Crystal, announced her plans to visit that “weird lesbian bar” only to later dial her plans back because “no one wanted to mask.”
One can only imagine where it goes from here. Will the Zoom troll become a Harvard professor? Will the bartender be the next AOC? And what about the clown? Will they/them be sitting on your jury?
The tragedy here is not for the hapless bar owner who paid the price for wanting to make people happy. It is a tragedy of a society that has forgotten how to say “no,” instead letting the patients run the asylum.
Although COVID may have long ago subsided, the woke mind virus that was once considered to be its side effect has proven to be the greater pandemic. And masks offer one of the clearest signs infection.
