A woman has crashed her car just seconds after shouting abuse at Reform UK leader Nigel Farage while driving past him, prompting him to joke that the incident was "instant karma."
The collision happened Tuesday evening as Farage was greeting supporters in Clacton, the Essex constituency he previously represented before triggering a by-election. A viral video shared by Reform UK shows the driver lowering the window of her Vauxhall Astra as she passed Farage. She then proceeded to shout abuse at him, calling him a 'wanker'. Moments later, apparently distracted, she failed to notice traffic ahead slowing for a red light and braked too late, colliding with the rear of a BMW. Nobody appeared to be injured in the low-speed crash. In the footage, one of Farage's aides can be
heard saying, "She won't be doing that again in a hurry."
Farage later shared the clip on X, writing: "This lady shouted abuse at me and then crashed her own car. That's what you might call instant karma!" The incident comes amid heightened security surrounding Reform UK politicians following the violent killing of former Reform immigration and justice spokesman Ann Widdecombe. Several Reform MPs have since been provided with round-the-clock security protection.
Farage has frequently spoken about the abuse and threats he receives while campaigning. During the 2024 general election campaign, he had a milkshake thrown at him while launching his Clacton candidacy. The Reform leader is currently contesting a by-election in Clacton, where he resigned his parliamentary seat after an investigation into a £5 million donation from billionaire Christopher Harborne. He denies any wrongdoing. The inquiry has been paused and is expected to resume if Farage returns to his seat in Westminster.
The Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats are all boycotting the contest, which Farage has described as a battle between "the people and the establishment".
