Musk posted on his platform X on Monday, "Why are rapists given suspended sentences in the UK, but this guy gets 18 months in solitary confinement, despite doing nothing violent?"
Musk's comments were in response to a post from another X user who highlighted a video of Robinson being interviewed after he had spent 9 weeks in solitary confinement at HMP Belmarsh maximum security facility in 2020. The footage showed the activist visibly distressed and in tears as he told the interviewer he was ready to get home to his children and just wanted everything "to be normal."
At the time, Robinson was jailed for livestreaming a video on Facebook that showed defendants who were part of a criminal trial, breaching a court reporting ban, per The Independent.
Presently, the activist has been serving his 18-month sentence since October 28 for contempt of court, another civil offense. At the time of the sentencing, The Daily Mail reported that Robinson would likely be kept in solitary confinement "for his own safety."
On December 28, Robinson's official X account shared an admin post confirming that he has been serving his jail term in solitary.
