In a now infamous instance of Progressives’ lack of self-awareness, MSNBC host Ari Melber had a conniption over Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, direly intoning:
“If you own all of Twitter or Facebook or what have you, you don’t have to explain yourself, you don’t even have to be transparent, you could secretly ban one party’s candidate or all of its candidates, all of it nominees. Or you could just secretly turn down the reach of their stuff and turn up the reach of something else and the rest of us might not even find about it until after the election.”
Mr. Melber’s obliviousness and hypocrisy were suitably skewered by astute observers. Therefore, one should resist the temptation to add to the calumnies. After all, Mr. Melber’s risible rant has provided further proof Leftists only know what they’ve been told; and how they only talk to each other. In this spirit of edification, better to light a candle, so that the benighted Left might glean an insight into the harmful ramifications of their destructive ideology and actions.
Let us “Go to the Mirror!”, where a few hypothetical queries allow Leftists to muse upon what would happen to “our democracy” if:
Nearly every major media news outlet – television, print, on-line – was operated by conservatives? Their every narrative, headline, “fact check”, etc., was instructed and slanted by their conservative political sensibility. In sum, every news source was Fox News, except for MSNBC – which conservatives demand be shut down for peddling “harmful disinformation”?
Nearly every work of art, literature, cinema, etc., pushed a conservative message, either overtly or subtly? What if nearly every artist and entertainer made sure to publicly proclaim their disdain for their progressive fans and worked against everything those fans held dear? Oh, and that same entertainment industry had an unofficial blacklist to ensure no progressives would be employed in it or have their voices heard?
Nearly every school district, is administered by and staffed by conservatives who actively instruct children – starting with kindergartners – about how to avoid the dangers of racial and sexual essentialism; and to reject the historical horrors of socialism and collectivism?
Nearly every multinational corporation trains its employees to reject racial and sexual essentialism in the in the work place; to promote the economic benefits of capitalism; and, to enforce this policy, spend billions of dollars every year to do it, including hiring conservatives to staff their human resources departments? These same conservative multinational corporations wield their power to frustrate and undo the lawful acts of progressive legislatures?
Nearly every university is run by conservatives who refuse to permit “harmful, offensive speech” by a progressive speaker on campus; and, if one such progressive speaker slips into the campus’ safe space, conservative students are empowered to shout them down and silence them? No institutions of higher learning have anything but a token progressive professor (likely untenured), because that Leftist ideology is hateful and, ergo, no one of any learning condones it, let alone teaches it?
A conservative president has created and a GOP Congress has funded a federal office to determine what constitutes disinformation and, when it must be combatted? This same conservative administration’s Department of Justice, citing the 2020 “mostly peaceful riots,” have declared Left-wing extremism to be the number one homeland security threat? And this conservative administration is using your tax dollars to educate the entire federal workforce – including the military – about how to avoid the dangers of race and sexual essentialism; and what constitutes a “permissible” – indeed, justified – level of political violence?
And you are slandered as a racist, fascist, insurrectionist, domestic terrorist every single minute, every single day?

But we do, don’t we? Further “hypotheticals” will little avail our efforts to enlighten the Left, who doubtless have caught onto the purpose of this exercise. No, these Tommy Leftists won’t smash the mirror. They’re too rapt by their reflection for introspection or, in this rare instance, destruction. Besides, we can already hear their rote response, which will be some variant of their “but we’re good and you’re haters” trope.
Armed with this historic rationalization of the self-anointed for coercing their ideological whimsies and horrors upon a resistant populace, the Left will continue heedlessly attacking, undermining, and endangering the foundational, God-given and constitutionally protected liberty of all Americans – including themselves – in our free republic.
But, hey, at least we tried. And, so doing, we did learn something – or at least confirmed it: Come the mid-terms, Americans will tell the Left: “We’re not gonna take it, never did and never will.”
