South Dakota Takes Aim at Critical Race Theory in Schools

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem signed an executive order Tuesday to prevent “divisive concepts” like Critical Race Theory from being taught in schools,

Though the term is not specifically mentioned in the language, the order is effectively a ban on Critical Race Theory in K-12 schools. It is directly aimed at the Department of Education, as school districts are in charge of much of the curriculum in the state.

“Political indoctrination has no place in our classrooms,” Noem said in a statement. “Our children will not be taught that they are racists or that they are victims and they will not be compelled to feel responsible for the mistakes of their ancestors. We will guarantee that our students learn America’s true and honest history – that includes both our triumphs and our mistakes.”

As reported by BizPacReview, the state’s Republican-led Senate Education Committee rejected a similar bill proposed by Noem in early March, but did pass a bill in regards to the university system, which seeks to ban training that creates “discomfort” on the basis of race.
