Over the past week, Rupert Lowe, the MP and leader of Restore Britain, has been subjected to a barrage of hostile attacks from mainstream newspapers and broadcasters.

The Times recently declared that Lowe's ideology is the “antithesis of Britishness”. On TalkTV, a video comparing Lowe to Adolf Hitler was published by the broadcaster and subsequently removed. Lowe said that he was “pleased that TalkTV has been forced to remove their video likening me to Hitler, along with other entirely false statements about me."

“Restore Britain is not going to be bullied around by the establishment media,” he added, citing the recent volume of coverage. One Telegraph article warned that Restore posed a “grave threat” to Britain's Jews, focusing on Lowe's alleged praise for a Restore Britain member who had blamed Israel for the September 11 attacks. Lowe has stressed he is not anti-semitic. His alleged praise for the Restore member in question occurred before — and was completely unrelated to — the individual's subsequent comments about 9/11.

"You've got people like Alex Phillips on TalkTV literally losing her sh*t and coming across as a frothing at the mouth nut job regarding Restore and regarding Rupert Lowe," one person said online. Other coverage has repeatedly placed Lowe and his party within the vocabulary of the far right, extremism and fascism. During Lowe's bitter split with Reform UK, his home was raided by armed police and his legally held firearms were seized. Lowe subsequently told Joe Rogan that the raid followed what he described as “the Reform party's false allegations about me”. The police investigation eventually ended without charges and Lowe's firearms were returned after approximately five months.

Lowe recently offered Nigel Farage, leader of Reform, an olive branch. On August 2, he called on the Reform leader to put their personal differences aside and work together “for the good of the country”.
