Hezbollah rockets reached the Israeli city of Haifa Sunday morning and the civilians living there. The missiles destroyed homes and cars as the war in Gaza continues to escalate again, The Telegraph reported. The Israeli military noted that the rockets, unlike previous blasts that hit military targets, had been fired “toward civilian areas.

The attack came after Israeli fighter jets pounded Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon in a sustained bombing run. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday night it attacked in two waves, one reaching 290 targets and the second 110 along southern Lebanon.

Israeli civilians were warned of the rocket attacks with air raid sirens that went off throughout northern Israel and sent people running into shelters. One rocket struck a residential building in Kiryat Bialik, near Haifa and wounding four people, CBC News reported.

"I ran without shoes, without a shirt, only with pants. I ran to this house when everything was still on fire to try to find if there are other people," Avi Vazana told CBC News. HIs first thoughts were with his wife, who is nine months pregnant with their child.

Alana Cohen, another resident who sought shelter Sunday morning told The Telegraph, “In Haifa we are not used to this, I have barely slept with all the booms and sirens through the night.”

It remains to be seen whether schools will reopen Monday and whether local lockdowns will persist to limit gatherings. Hospitals have operating facilities to areas insulated from rocket and missile attacks.

In addition to responding to Israeli bombing, Hezbollah has claimed that its missiles have reached the Ramat David Airbase as means of avening Israel’s assault of exploding pagers and walkie-talkies that may have been a unique application of technology in the arsenal of war.
