JACQUELINE TOBOROFF: Hamas' attack on Israel is the 'mask off' moment for the antisemitic Democratic Socialists of America

The DSA's morally repulsive response to Hamas' invasion will kill it as a political force.

Few people have heard of DSA, Democratic Socialists of America. It’s an organization with approximately 92,000 members spread out across all 50 states. While DSA is small considering the American population is 331.9 million, its members in public office are amongst the most radical, anti America, and pro terror. These DSA elected officials have run roughshod over their fellow Democrats. But now, DSA might be dead.

On October 7, Hamas attacked Israel. The atrocities were unimaginable. As just one example, Hamas live streamed executing a little girl in front of her wailing siblings and traumatized parents. Children burned, as homes were set alight with people still inside. And hostages were taken. Including Americans.

Meanwhile, DSA mobilized.

On October 8th, one day after Hamas did all this, New York City DSA held an “All Out For Palestine Rally.” Attendees were instructed to “Cover your face and others! Mask up, [sic] and don’t post pics [sic] of yourself or others during a protest. Don’t discuss stuff that may or may not have happened. Just don’t.” Also, “Give someone not going your legal info [sic] in case you’re arrested.”

New York’s DSA elected officials in the US House of Representatives are Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In the New York Senate, they are Julia Salazar, Jabari Brisport and Kristen Gonzalez. In the New York Assembly, they are Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, Zohran Mamdani, Emily Gallagher, Marcela Mitaynes, Phara Souffrant Forrest, and Sara Shrestha. Then, there’s New York City Comptroller Brad Lander and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. Finally, and this is important because New York City Council elections are coming up November 7th, here are the DSA members up for re-election; Kristin Richardson Jordan,  Carlina Rivera, Tiffany Caban, Chi Osse, Alexa Aviles and Shahana Hanif.

DSA is the Hamas Caucus. And it has jumped the shark. A major miscalculation was assuming the BLM rent-a-crowd of social media influencers -- Lululemon wearing, sancerre drinking, Tribeca moms -- would make the leap to championing Hamas. The “All Out For Palestine Rally” and its supporters were so heinous, the spotlight exposed just how vile DSA is. Images showed the new face of “white supremacy”, flashing swastikas. It shocked people that have been through a lot in three years.

Public condemnation was swift and severe. New York City Council Common Sense Caucus issued a statement; “The DSA made it clear they support Hamas terrorists' acts of murder, rape, and abduction against Jews. We unequivocally condemn the rally and demand that DSA-backed officials cease rationalizing Saturday's horrific events and immediately apologize & rescind their statements.” City Councilman Joe Borelli said “[one] can't underestimate how much…she [AOC] stood by DSA as they held swastika-waving rallies to cheer on the murder of civilians.”

The DSA, sensing its own toxicity, attempted to backtrack, offering some cringe moral equivocation of Hamas and said; “Peace Now, End Occupation & Apartheid.” Nicole Gelinas summed it up; “Finito. No aspiring NYC pol will ever take their endorsement again, and no moderate Dem ever has to fear them again (as if they really had to before).”

On October 10th, three days after Hamas repulsed even the most "evolved" Upper West Sider, and two days after DSA showed us it’s the American public relations for Hamas, AOC surfaced. “Here’s what we’re not going to do: We will not allow bigotry to destroy our community and city in this devastating moment. Islamophobia, antisemitism, and victim blaming cannot be tolerated”, she said. There was zero “islamophobia.” There was anti-semitism to such a barbaric degree, newscasters describing the scene of the decapitated babies broke down live on-air.

On October 11th, Congressman Shri Thanedar, representing Michigan’s 13th District, said, “I renounce my membership in the DSA.” He can read the writing on the wall.

Supporting terror comes naturally to DSA members. They were staunch advocates of BLM, which looted, burned, vandalized, and assaulted, with never before seen ramifications. It wasn’t only that BLM caused over $1 billion in riot damage, the most expensive in insurance history, it was that BLM “reimagined” America. The core principles of BLM are that they want to "decolonize" America, ie to eradicate white people and Jews. BLM allowed every institution in America (finance, education, law, culture and entertainment, hospitality, military, and sports) to mainstream CRT / DEI. This is exactly how we got to 2023, NYC DSA believing it could easily make the people who'd once cheered on BLM cross that bridge to hell whereby they support Hamas. Many BLM supporters didn’t understand just how racist and anti-Semitic BLM is. And now, it’s too late - it is what every class, every lesson, every teacher incorporates into all aspects of school life.

BLM hasn’t - but should be - designated a terror group by the Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken. But Hamas is a terror group. And for siding with Hamas, DSA should be investigated by the FBI. Perhaps DSA members should be put on a terror watchlist. How can any of the current DSA members in public office not be immediately expelled? Forget not representing America’s Judeo-Christian ethos; they’re undermining national security itself and siding with a terror organization that has the highest number of American hostages since Tehran, during the Carter Administration. It's time for the DSA to be rooted out of American public life, just as Hamas is rooted out of Gaza.
