Moscow has claimed that the recent drone attack on the Kremlin was backed by the US, which reportedly aimed to kill Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian forces responded by firing more combat drones at major Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, per Reuters.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that Ukraine had carried out the attack at the behest of the US. The attack was reportedly carried out during the early hours of Wednesday. No evidence has been provided that directly links to the US to the drone attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Kyiv had nothing to do with the apparent attack on the Kremlin, noting that his forces have only been used to protect and defend Ukraine’s sovereign territory, per CBS News.
US officials have reportedly been working to find the source of the reported attack, but the State Department spokesperson suggested on Wednesday that any information coming out of the Kremlin should be taken with “a shaker of salt.” However, Peskov has referred to the denial by the US and Ukraine as “ridiculous.”
Peskov went on to suggest that Ukraine is a puppet state run by Washington, saying that “we know very well that decisions on such actions and such terrorist attacks are made not in Kyiv, but in Washington,” going on to say that the US tells Kyiv what to do, and the Eastern European country does it.
“Washington must clearly understand that we know it,” Peskov said.
Leaked classified Pentagon documents have suggested that the US has been involved in the war in Ukraine, including putting American soldiers into direct conflict with Russian soldiers. It is illegal for the US to enter a war without the consent of Congress, which it has not yet received. This raises questions about the Biden administration’s dealings in Ukraine, and why no plan for peace has yet been revealed.
