PAMELA GARFIELD-JAEGER: No, ICE are not Nazis and immigration enforcement is not the Holocaust

I am so sick and tired of seeing Nazi Germany comparisons to modern American politics. This ridiculous analogy is a slap in the face to all the people who perished, lived through, or were impacted by the Holocaust.

As the tension rises in Minneapolis, the media is saturated with false Holocaust comparisons. Recent comments by radio personality "Charlamagne tha God" may be the most absurd. He explicitly stated that he believes America may one day go through a "de-MAGA-ification," analogous to the Allied denazification of postwar Germany. This statement doesn't criticize policy; it demonizes fellow citizens as contemporary equivalents of the worst mass killers in history. This is dangerous, misleading, and fundamentally misrepresents both the present and the past.

Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, dared to compare illegal immigrant children hiding in their homes from ICE to Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl who hid from Nazi's for two years and then perished in a concentration camp.

As a Jew who personally knew Holocaust survivors, I refuse to dismiss these comments as hyperbole. Unfortunately, because people are so desensitized and uninformed, we forget what these comments really mean. The people who were slaughtered in the Holocaust were normal, innocent citizens who owned homes and businesses. They did not sneak across a border illegally or antagonize ICE officers. German, French, Polish, etc., citizens were murdered in cold blood, kept in camps, starved, experimented on, and gassed to death.

Let's set a little context for our present-day situation: During Joe Biden's presidency, the United States faced a severe border crisis. It was estimated that there were 10-11 million encounters with unfettered illegal immigrants at the southern border, many of whom are serious criminals. As a result of these open borders, we have witnessed tragic murders of innocent Americans, like Laken Riley, at the hands of these illegal immigrants.

In addition to rising crime, law-abiding American citizens can not afford healthcare or are bumped in line for essential services, as illegal immigrants get free healthcare. Schools are overrun and overcrowded in sanctuary cities, and jobs are being taken from citizens by illegals who are even given driver's licenses and other documents for work.

This is unsustainable. If we do not have a border, we do not have a country; our infrastructure cannot handle it. There will be nowhere for genuine asylum seekers to go because America, as we know it, will be gone. Immigrants from communist countries like Cuba know this. They risked everything to get here and will do anything to preserve the United States so this great experiment lasts another 250 years.

Yet, as ICE attempts to do its job to identify and deport illegal aliens, they are antagonized by ginned-up progressive protesters who believe they are fighting modern day Nazi's. These progressives have been fed this lunacy for over ten years now and believe it. Tensions are insanely high, and chaos ensues in Minneapolis. Instead of recognizing how left-wing leaders and media have created mayhem with their lies and half-truths, their followers believe they are fighting a Nazi regime.

America has been dumbed down badly over the last 20 years, and it shows. I am astounded that someone like Charlamagne tha God could be taken seriously by anyone. Plus, the fact that Tim Walz believed he could get away with his false comparison to Anne Frank is mind-boggling. Yet, here we are, and enough people believe them.

We must remember that no matter how messy these ICE encounters become, the situation in Minnesota can never compare to the systematic slaughter of innocent Jewish citizens (and others) of Nazi Germany. The history of the Holocaust is full of unimaginable horrors, and these horrors should not be thrown around lightly to achieve cheap political points.
