Rep. John Boehner (R.Ohio) was voted House majority leader in today’s elections and his Republican colleagues in the U.S. House of the Representatives - including Boehner's opponents - are sending their congratulations:

Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona:

"I am proud of the race we ran. I have no regrets and make no excuses. I congratulate John Boehner. As long as we are advancing our agenda of limited government and changing the way Washington does business, I look forward to working with him and the rest of our House Leadership team."

House Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri:

"John Boehner is a good friend, and this has been a well fought race for Leader. I look forward to working with him at the leadership table to advance an agenda aimed at limited government, personal responsibility, and economic and national security.

"House Republicans have hard work ahead of us. First we must restore Americans' faith in our system.

"I'm confident John Boehner will be a Leader we can unite around as we move forward to do the hard work Americans sent us here to do."

Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana:

"Today, Republicans in Congress have spoken with the election of John Boehner as our new Majority Leader. I congratulate Majority Leader Boehner for his victory and pledge to work with him to advance the Republican agenda of limited government, fiscal discipline and traditional moral values during the balance of the 109th Congress.

"To restore public confidence in our national legislature, the American people rightly expect this Republican majority to take bold steps to put our fiscal and ethical house in order. On this agenda, I am confident that Republicans can unify as an effective force for change under the leadership of Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader John Boehner and Majority Whip Roy Blunt."

Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas:

"I congratulate Congressman Boehner on his successful campaign to lead our Majority. I know he will remain true to the conservative, limited government principles that won and have maintained our Majority in Congress.

"Now more than ever, it is vitally important for Republicans to build on our record of accomplishment and lead the charge for reform. Majority Leader Boehner has a tremendous opportunity to help build a lasting Republican Majority by exercising fiscal discipline, enacting entitlement and earmark reforms, and demanding more accountability to American taxpayers."

Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina

"After an informative and respectful campaign between three qualified and honorable candidates, House Republicans now have a new Majority Leader. John Boehner is a man who already possesses an impressive record of leading members of Congress to achieve legislative victories that have improved the lives of Americans. While serving as Chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, he consistently confronted challenges, thoughtfully considered the issues, and successfully guided his colleagues to deliver lasting solutions. I am confident he possesses the leadership abilities and vision necessary to serve as House Majority Leader.

"As the new session of Congress begins, House Republicans face an extensive list of challenges and opportunities. From ensuring victory in the Global War on Terrorism to increasing our energy independence and strengthening our robust economy, we are focused together on a positive agenda that will directly benefit American families. Under the leadership of Speaker Hastert, Majority Leader Boehner, Majority Whip Blunt, and Policy Chairman Putnam, House Republicans will steer our nation in the right direction."
