A recent poll conducted by the Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago has revealed a significant majority of Americans support measures to restrict the number of migrants seeking asylum in the United States. Additionally, the poll indicates strong backing for bolstering Border Patrol forces along the southern border.

According to the poll, 53% of Americans agree that the government should how many migrants seek asylum in the country. Of the same respondents, 64% are in favor of the proposal to increase the recruitment of Border Patrol agents to enhance security along the border with Mexico.

The results of the poll illustrate a clear divide along partisan lines, with conservatives and independents largely favoring stricter border control measures while liberals expressed a more favorable view of mass migration. However, even among liberal respondents, 54% expressed support for the idea of hiring more border patrol agents.

Also included in the poll was how Americans view President Biden’s handling on immigration. Of the respondents, 68% expressed disapproval of the President’s actions toward immigration. Roughly half of respondents blamed the president for the current chaos at the southern border.

These findings come at a time when immigration has emerged as a top concern among Americans. A Gallup poll conducted last February revealed that immigration ranked as the most important issue facing the United States, according to voters. A significant portion of respondents cited the influx of immigrants entering the country illegally as a substantial threat to national interests.

The issue of illegal immigration has taken center stage, particularly with reports indicating a surgein crossings since President Biden assumed office. Over 10 million illegal immigrants have reportedly entered the country since the start of his presidency, with an estimated 1.7 million categorized as “gotaways.”
