Climate activist Greta Thunberg calls for global general strike in 'solidarity with Palestine and Gaza' after Hamas attacks on Israel

On Friday, radical environmentalist Greta Thunberg became the latest activist to publicly profess solidarity with the Palestinians. In an Instagram post, she claimed to be in support of "all civilians affected" by the current war, but failed to mention the Israelis by name.

While the post received over 100,000 likes in just an hour, not everyone was happy about Thunberg's decision to stray from climate change issues and comment on a subject well outside her wheelhouse.

"Today we are striking in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza," Thunberg wrote. "The world needs to speak up and call for and immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected."

She also shared a post from a pro-Palestine Instagram account calling for a "global general strike" and "civil disobedience."

In an earlier post, one of Thunberg's friends had placed a stuffed octopus on her knee, which some people mistook as a symbol for antisemitism. She deleted the image, and explained in the updated caption that far from being antisemitic, the toy was "a tool often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings."

In the comments, people expressed their dismay over the climate crusader's position.

"Greta, you used to be an inspiration, but now you're a huge disappointment," Roie Galitz wrote. "I can't believe you’re pro Terrorism."

"You didn’t condemn Hamas and Jihad for committing murders and executions of babies, children and innocent people," Galitz added, noting that he had lost friends to the Iranian-backed Palestinian terrorist organization.

He informed Thunberg that she "can be pro Palestinian, pro Israel and against Hamas and terrorists, adding, "Please educate yourself and don’t be afraid to speak up as you did with [climate]."

His sentiments were shared by many others, who urged Thunberg to think about what it truly means to "stand with Gaza" given the fact that Hamas was elected to be the government.

"Hamas is a declared terrorist organisation that boycotts many liberal things you support," another user wrote. "Please educate yourself, because by this post you justify an organisation that boycotts the LGBTQ community, and women's rights."

In the nearly two weeks since Hamas launched its latest wave of terror, over 1,000 innocent civilians have been murdered.
