Rest assured, the FBI has somebody or other working on the IRS case

Comedy gold as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) grills FBI Director Robert Mueller on the status of the Bureau’s investigation into IRS abuse, and is shocked to discover that Muller doesn’t know who’s in charge of the investigation, how many people are working on it, or whether they’ve interviewed any of the victims yet:

Mueller doesn’t know if his own agency has talked to any of the targeted Tea Party groups yet, but the Daily Caller does:

There is no evidence that the FBI has contacted a single tea party group in its criminal investigation of the Internal Revenue Service, according to the groups the IRS abused.

“We have not been contacted by any federal investigative agency and, to date, none of our clients have been contacted or interviewed by the FBI,” Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice told The Daily Caller on Thursday. The ACLJ has filed suit against the IRS on behalf of 25 conservative groups, with additional groups being added in the next couple weeks, according to a spokesman.

“I have been very surprised that I have not heard from anybody and frankly, none of my clients have. I talk to other tea party leaders on a regular basis,” said Cleta Mitchell, the lawyer largely credited with pushing the IRS abuses to the forefront.

We’ve entered a Golden Age of Incompetence under the Obama Administration, in which nobody in charge is expected to know anything about the agencies they nominally supervise.  Given the precedents set by President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and others, it would actually be foolish and dangerous for these people to stay on top of their subordinates.  As long as incompetence is accepted as a defense against oversight, there’s no reason for a top official to go sticking his nose into any potential scandal bear traps.

“The revelation suggests that the FBI is in no hurry to get to the bottom of the scandal, despite the Obama administration’s promise to investigate the IRS’s multi-year abuse of conservative groups,” Vince Coglianese of the Daily Caller drily observed after learning the victims had not yet been contacted by “investigators.”

That goes double for the FBI Director admitting he has no idea who’s running the case that has gripped America’s attention for the past month.  Can anyone point to a single shred of evidence anywhere that the Obama Administration considers this a serious abuse of power that must be thoroughly investigated, with the responsible parties publicly denounced and swiftly barred from accessing sensitive information?
