An Icelandic trans-identified male has [won](https://www.facebook.com/DiscGolfProTour/posts/mar%C3%ADa-eldey-krist%C3%ADnard%C3%B3ttir-and-elias-luukkonen-are-your-2025-dgpt-q-series-reyk/1089849759954099/) the [women’s division](https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/86818) of the 2025 Disc Gold Professional Tour (DGPT) Q-Series Reykjavik Open. María Eldey Kristínardóttir has a total of 25 career wins over 68 events, bringing in $5,128.

Kristínardóttir received attention at the end of July after competing in the [women’s](https://humanevents.com/2025/07/03/paula-scanlan-trump-delivered-on-his-promise-to-protect-womens-sports-in-only-6-months) division of the Professional Disc Golf Association’s (PDGA) Professional World Championships in Finland. The athlete came in [27th place](https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/90947#FPO) in that competition and won $600.

Kristínardóttir also received [first place](https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/93462#FPO) at the Íslandsmót ÍFS 2025 in Reykjavik earlier in August, bringing home $121 while the athlete’s [female](https://humanevents.com/2025/04/22/libby-emmons-no-nyt-fighting-against-men-in-womens-sports-is-not-fringe-its-women-finally-having-their-say) competitors did not receive prize money. In late July, Kristínardóttir came in [second place](https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/94192#FPO) at the 2025 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships’ Long Drive Competition.

Kristínardóttir was spotted at a transgender protest in 2019 carrying a sign that read, "Hate is a choice. [Gender](https://thepostmillennial.com/hhs-cuts-federal-funds-to-california-sex-ed-program-that-teaches-gender-ideology-to-children) identity is not" in Icelandic.

DGPT abides by the [transgender policy](http://pdga.com/medical/gender-based-division-eligibility) set forth by the PDGA. Biologically male players who wish to compete in the women’s division are eligible to do so if they meet one of two sets of criteria: they have been taking hormone therapy for at least 24 months, have a testosterone level below 2 nmol/L for at least 24 months, and continue to be below this level and take hormone treatments; or, they have undergone a sex change surgery and their testosterone level remains below 2 nmol/L for 24 months prior to the PGDA event.
