Secretary of War [Pete Hegseth](https://humanevents.com/2026/09/22/breaking-pentagon-to-require-testing-for-generals-before-promotion) will be on hand in San Diego to welcome home the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier that is back in the US after a lengthy deployment in the Middle East. Hegseth will be joined by [Jack Posobiec](https://humanevents.com/2026/10/05/jack-posobiec-president-trump-fcc-deregulation-plan-will-keep-the-airwaves-free-for-independent-voices), a Navy veteran and host of Human Events Daily. This will be the first time the sailors have been home to America in more than 10 months.

"The crew of the USS Lincoln spent a record amount of time at sea," Posobiec told Human Events, praising the crew, "conducting a tough mission for almost a full year without a single operational mishap. Regardless of anyone's feelings about the war, these sailors deserve our support."

Hegseth and Posobiec traveled to San Diego, where the USS Lincoln will port after a 320-day deployment that included 260 days at sea during which time they did not dock at port. The ship's first port visit after that time was in Thailand on Sept. 2.

The ship departed from San Diego on Nov. 21, 2025 and joined the effort in the [Middle East](https://humanevents.com/2026/09/30/irans-revolutionary-guard-spreads-propaganda-within-the-us-telling-american-voters-to-oppose-trump-in-midterms) after the US and Israel undertook a conflict against Iran on Feb. 28. Now they are coming home.

Secretary Hegseth will welcome the USS Lincoln home \[on Wednesday\] following their deployment. Secretary Hegseth will also speak to the crew on the ship, participate in PT and eat lunch with warfighters in the area."

Family members of those on board offered concerns during the deployment, saying that the crew was suffering from not having been able to get off the ship during what became the [second-longest](https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2026/10/06/uss-abraham-lincoln-to-return-home-after-320-days/) carrier deployment in the post-Vietnam era.
