With the 2022 midterm elections rounding the corner, all U.S. states are doing away with mask mandates in preparation, except for one: Hawaii.
Hawaii remains the only state in the U.S. that has not announced plans to lift its mask mandate.
Democrat Gov. David Ige said that he’s “working with the Department of Health to determine when the time is right for Hawaii to lift the indoor mask mandate,” per Just the News.
The state’s COVID-19 portal says that people are allowed to remove their masks when outdoors, eating or drinking…or driving in your car alone.
Cases statewide have gone down 65% over the past two weeks, and more than 75 percent of Hawaiians are vaccinated as well.
"Hawaii ranks second in the nation when it comes to COVID-deaths, in part because of the indoor mask requirement and other measures that have proven successful in protecting our community from this potentially deadly virus," Ige said. "We base our decisions on science, with the health and safety of our community as the top priority."
