Attorney, Constitutional expert, election integrity activist, and now-candidate for State Attorney General in Illinois David Shestokas joins Hamachek to discuss the importance of the Attorney General position and how the average American does not understand the importance of the role an elected AG can play in enforcing law and as serving as a check on the overreach of executive power within a state.
Unlike the Attorney General of the United States - which is a political appointment position - most states, like Illinois, independently elect the AG. This means that the AG serves the electorate and the state constitution and laws, not the governor or any other elected official. Shestokas shares his view on how that position can be used to protect citizens from authoritarian abuses of power and dereliction of duty such as the people of Illinois have experienced under the near-despotic first term of Governor J.B. Pritzker.
Covering everything from election integrity to the prosecution of criminals neglected by lower levels of jurisdiction, Shestokas makes the case for his candidacy in Illinois, and calls for other like-minded constitutionalists in other states to step forward and seek office.
