As the omicron variant rips its way around the globe, the CDC is now recommending that anyone over the age of 18 receive the COVID-19 booster.
The agency previously recommended the booster for adults 50 and older, Just the News reports.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the new guidance comes amid the emergence of the omicron variant. While no cases have yet been reported in the U.S., officials expect they will soon.
“Everyone ages 18 and older should get a booster shot either when they are 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series or 2 months after their initial J&J vaccine,” Walensky said, adding that increased testing will help officials identify omicron quicker.
