Here’s another bit of news for the “news” networks to black out, while they’re busy keeping the Gruber Revelations away from their viewers: a ridiculous scam was used to inflate the ObamaCare enrollment numbers by nearly half a million people. First we lost a million “enrollees” who were never actually legitimate applicants, and now we lose another 400,000 who only signed up for dental plans, not health insurance. Bloomberg News reports:
The Obama administration included as many as 400,000 dental plans in a number it reported for enrollments under the Affordable Care Act, an unpublicized detail that helped surpass a goal for 7 million sign-ups.
Without the dental plans, the federal government would have had 6.97 million people with medical insurance under the law known as Obamacare, investigators for the House Oversight and Government Reform committee calculated, using data they obtained from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Federal officials said in September they had 7.3 million people enrolled in coverage through new government-run insurance exchanges. They didn’t distinguish between medical and dental plans, breaking from previous practice without notice.
Blending dental and medical plans let the administration assert that enrollment remained greater than 7 million, the original projection of the Congressional Budget Office. The move also partly obscured the attrition of more than 1 million in the number of people enrolled in medical insurance.
“Breaking from previous practice without notice?” Why, that’s so… unlike the Obama Administration. As the Bloomberg piece goes on to note, the subterfuge was perpetrated in September, when the numbers suddenly “became less transparent.” The House Oversight Committee tumbled to the scam while they were poring over some spreadsheets, and noticed some “health insurance plans” with premiums of less than $60 a month. Needless to say, that’s not typical of the expensive, heavily subsidized “Affordable” Care Act, where the national average for a low-end plan is increasing by 7 to 14 percent this year… but in some states, the increase will be closer to 100 percent. If you recall President Obama’s copious promises about paying $2500 a year less for insurance, you are instructed to strike your head against the nearest unyielding surface until those memories fade.
Lies, lies, lies, from the first time Barack Obama opened his mouth about health-care reform, to the latest cooked numbers from the Department of Health and Human Services. It won’t matter much now that the Constitution is being formally shredded, and the despotic President has made it clear he doesn’t care what messages you peons send with your silly little elections. That’s the common thread linking all those Gruber videos: he was crowing about successfully deceiving Congress and the American people last year, because with Obama’s re-election, the American people have supposedly lost all control over the destiny of medicine.
It doesn’t matter how false the promises were, how many tricks were pulled to win yesterday’s political battles, how much deception was poured on the floor to grease ObamaCare’s creep from one news cycle to the next. It doesn’t matter that a silly ruse was used to inflate enrollment numbers to give Obama a good news cycle last spring. Liberty taken is never returned; what the State consumes is lost forever. Your satisfaction with the services rendered is largely irrelevant, and if you’re one of the people who got stuck paying double or triple insurance premiums, or lost access to your doctor, don’t expect the media to come along and point any sympathetic cameras at you.
For example, the media was not interested in talking with Philadelpia investment adviser Rich Weinstein after his insurance policy got canceled, contrary to Obama’s many vows that such a thing could never happen, and the premiums for his new policy doubled. His quest to understand how ObamaCare failed to meet its promises led him to watch a slew of long, boring videos of the plan’s architect, Jonathan Gruber, discussing how it was designed and passed. The rest, as they say, is history… or at least it would be, if the major “news” networks weren’t ignoring both Weinstein’s complaints, and the blockbuster video clips he unearthed.
Lies are ratified by strategically ignoring the anguish of those who were deceived.
