Getting a new perspective on an old idea can be jarring.

Just look at how different the map below looks compared to the one youâ??ve seen your entire life.
How can something so familiar seem so disorienting?
First, it reminds you that ideas of â??northâ?ť and â??southâ?ť are arbitrary constructs.
Second, the map is also “rotated” so that China, Indonesia and Australia are in the center of the world. The United States and Europe are little more than â??southernâ?ť backwaters.
