Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid slammed Republican lawmakers on Tuesday for criticizing Obama’s decision not to push for residual troops in Iraq after 2011.
Reid told reporters:
“Those who attack President Obama for bringing our troops home are flat wrong in criticizing him for that, and they’re out of step not only with the president but with the American people. After a decade of war we’ve all had enough. I do not support putting our men and women in harms [sic] way in Iraq.”
However, the White House may not fulfill Reid’s wishes as it considers airstrikes in Iraq.
The president told congressional leaders on Monday that he would deploy up to 275 U.S. troops to Iraq to protect the American embassy and staff.
