The University of Michigan released its preliminary Consumer Sentiment Index for December: 82.5. This number is well above the final November figure of 75.1 and the December 2012 number of 72.9. Rising consumer sentiment is correlated with real household income growth and augurs well for the 2013 holiday shopping season.
