Congressman: McAuliffe owes Virginians explanation about White House meeting

McAuliffe and GreenTech Automotive advisers met with the Obama administration’s aide responsible for helping Solyndra

WASHINGTON, D.C. ‚?? U.S. Rep.¬†Morgan Griffith¬†says¬†Terry McAuliffe¬†owes Virginians an explanation of what was discussed in a secretive White House meeting.

McAuliffe and three top advisers representing his GreenTech Automotive company met with the Obama administration aide responsible for helping solar-panel maker Solyndra win hundreds of millions in federal loans and high-profile presidential support. Solyndra went bankrupt in 2011.

None of the parties involved in the 2010 meeting have said what was discussed. Griffith says it‚??s time for McAuliffe to do so.

‚??He wants to be governor. He has to answer,‚?Ě the Abingdon Republican told¬†Watchdog.org¬†in an interview Tuesday.

‚??Obviously, some kind of discussion went on. Absent a national-security issue, it‚??s a legitimate question.‚?Ě

At the time of the meeting, McAuliffe was working to get his electric-car company started.

Griffith, who serves on the¬†House Energy and Commerce Committee¬†as well as the oversight and investigations subcommittee, acknowledged that he does ‚??not know what the White House conversation was about.‚?Ě

But he was critical of the Obama administration‚??s ‚??green energy‚?Ě agenda.

‚??You always have some losers, but they did have a lot of losers during that time period,‚?Ě said Griffith, noting that federal investigations are continuing into the Solyndra affair.

The congressman went on to assail McAuliffe‚??s maneuvers with GreenTech.

‚??I get it if folks don‚??t want to pay attention to the fact that he sent jobs to Mississippi instead of Virginia.¬†And I suppose one can argue it‚??s ‚??just business‚?? if he used his influence to get a Chinese businessman a green card and gave him permanent residence status by calling in favors.

‚??But now he‚??s being¬†investigated by the federal government. If Terry McAuliffe can‚??t be trusted to be upfront with investors of his own company, what makes us think he would be any different with the people of Virginia?‚?Ě Griffith said.

The McAuliffe campaign did not respond to Watchdog‚??s request for comment.
