Donald Trump tried to give the U.S. a $100-million gift, but the Obama White House wasn’t interested. More specifically, he says, they never returned his call.
News broke recently that Trump had filled out the paperwork to disclose his financial resume in preparation for a Presidential run, and those documents showed a net worth of more than $7 billion. Now Trump reveals that he tried to give $100 million of it to the U.S. government.
As Trump reveals in his new book, Time to Get Tough, just released this week, “I called up the White House and they put me on with President Obama’s top senior strategist, David Axelrod. We have a very nice conversation and I told David that ‘I will build you, free of charge, one of the greatest ballrooms of the world so that the president and all future American presidents can host events at the White House in a proper manner. To do it to the highest standards, it will cost anywhere from $50 to $100 million. I will cover the expenses and give the ballroom to the U.S. government as a gift.”
‘Wow’, Axelrod said. ‘That’s very interesting.’ He then said he would talk it over and get back to me. No one ever called back.”
“My offer still stands,” says Trump. And then he points out: “If someone wants to give America—a nation that is flat broke—a nice gift, you call them back, regardless of what party they belong to.”
