The campaign of presidential candidate Herman Cain has produced a five minute video called “9-9-9: The Movie”, hashing out the details of his 9-9-9 tax plan and showing how it will “slay the tax monster”.
The video describes how the current tax code is inefficient, prone to corruption and destructive to the American economy. According to the video it is a “monster” held together by “tattered red tape” and controlled by “squirrelly bureaucrats”.
Cain’s plan calls to eliminate the 82,000 pages of the tax code and supplant it with his simple 9-9-9 plan. This would create a 9 percent income tax, a 9 percent business tax and a 9 percent national sales tax. The video explains how this would increase wages and government revenues. On top of that, it would be able to cut out a lot of what the Internal Revenue Service does, saving an enormous amount of money for taxpayers.
On the criticism of the plan, which has been that politicians will simply raise the rates of taxation when they get the chance, the video states that the transparency of it will keep lawmakers in check.
