In a letter exclusively disclosed to Christian Heinze of GOP12, Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared that he will challenge House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-CA) to a debate.
Perry’s challenge to Pelosi comes after a 60 Minutes special segment on “Throw Them All Out”, a book about the soft corruption and insider trading that frequently occurs in American politics. Pelosi was one of the major targets in the book, being accused of reaping tremendous financial benefits through investments in VISA.
Perry said in the letter, “Do you truly believe the answer to massive debt, over-regulation and bloated big government policies is to continue to protect the status quo, which enriches and empowers Washington insiders at the expense of the American people?”
“I am in Washington Monday and would love to engage you in a public debate about my Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo,” Perry said.
While Perry’s biggest Achilles heel has been his debating skills, Pelosi, if she accepts the challenge, could be an easy target and conservatives would love to see her go down in a debate. Pelosi is generally considered to be a poor public speaker and debater.
Update: Pelosi rejected Perry’s debate challenge.
