Considering what a success breaking the Gaza blockade was last year, a group of American agitators led by hardcore Communist Leslie Cagan plan another futile attempt at aiding their brethren from Hamas. Nothing like learning from your failures. Adding to the amusement this time around, they plan to join a flotilla in July while riding aboard the vessel Audacity of Hope.
You can’t make this stuff up.
According to a letter the Audacity of Hope group sent to US President Barack Obama, in addition to 36 passengers, 4 crew members, and 10 members of the press, the US-flagged boat “will carry thousands of letters of support and friendship from people throughout the US to the women, children and men of Gaza. There will be no weapons of any sort on board.”
Ten members of the press, huh? Some might argue that’s a target-rich environment. But really, is that much coverage necessary? We probably don’t even have ten members of the press covering the ATF gun-running scandal, yet they find this impending debacle worthy of so much coverage?
For some reason the organizers feel dragging in as many American Jews as possible has some sort of meaning.
“It’s important that Jews are in this boat… The Jewish lobby in this country is so powerful,” said New York labor attorney Richard Levy, himself Jewish.
“We cannot support an Israeli blockade which is morally and juridically unsupportable… No more people should be slaughtered in the name of the Jews.”
So a group of agitators includes some leftist American Jews who probably hate the Israeli government. The same people typically hate America as well, at least while a Republican is in the White House. Frankly, these folks want to provoke an incident so the IDF should feel free to use, as the left is fond of saying, any means necessary to deter them.
Supposedly they’re not even finding sympathy from our State Department.
“One of our organizers, a former high level State Department official, visited their offices, and they tried to convince her not to go. As American citizens, we got no assurances that we’ll get protection. In fact, I was informed informally that they won’t be sorry if something happens to us. It’s shocking.”
If that’s true, then props to the State Department for not enabling these idiots. Maybe if they want to makes themselves useful they should try getting into Syria to help those being slaughtered by Bashar Assad. Then again, they’re probably sympathetic to him.
Wisely, the Turkish ship at the center of last year’s debacle won’t be making the trip this time around. Consider it a lesson learned. A shame these American goofballs don’t heed their cue.
