Never again will we rhetorically wonder if Democrats can sink any lower in their efforts to demonize Republicans. Always remember: Tomorrow will bring a new low, although it might take at least a week for them to top this in terms of sheer demagoguery. “We estimate, and I believe these are very conservative estimates, that H.R. 1 would lead to 70,000 kids dying,” USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah testified before the House Appropriations State and Foreign Ops subcommittee. Of that 70,000, 30,000 would come from malaria control programs that would have to be scaled back specifically. The other 40,000 is broken out as 24,000 would die because of a lack of support for immunizations and other investments and 16,000 would be because of a lack of skilled attendants at birth,” he said.”
So if we’re to play along and assume a cut of an estimated cut of $430 million from the president’s request would result in 70,000 deaths, would it not make sense to procure money from elsewhere if we’re going to continue down the endless path of funding every cause under the sun? Just think, the Democrats gleefully spent a reported $787 billion in their 2009 stimulus, yet now we’re to believe a relatively paltry $430 million cannot be found from one of their pet projects? How many children died because money went to the stimulus rather than to helping poor malaria-ridden children? (Actually, the true cost of the stimulus may well cost four times that.
Ironically, the death toll from malaria likely would be minimal if it weren’t for environmentalists who helped eliminate the use of DDT, which is strongly supported by the World Health Organization, according to the New York Times: “The World Health Organization on Friday forcefully endorsed wider use of the insecticide DDT across Africa to exterminate and repel the mosquitoes that cause malaria. The disease kills more than a million people a year, 800,000 of them young children in Africa.” Yet DDT was banned by the EPA back in 1972. So using the left’s own logic, that’s 30,400,000 dead since the ban.
It’s also curious how at virtually the same time as the DDT ban along came Roe vs. Wade. Estimates vary wildly, but this report from Life News claims that 52 million lives have been aborted since Roe became the law of the land. Again, using liberal logic (now there’s an oxymoron), that’s now 82 million dead in just under 40 years. So right there you have at least two million annual casualties thanks to the left, but it’s the Republicans who’ll be killing 70,000 children a year.
Taking the absurdity a step further, it was reported the president’s Hawaii vacation this past Christmas cost taxpayers $1,474,200. If the claim that a budget cut of $430 million would cost 70,000 kids to die, that breaks down to $6142 per life. So are we now allowed to claim that Obama’s lavish Hawaii vacation resulted in the death of 240 children?
More recently, Obama is racking up an estimated $100 million tab per day with his kinetic military exercise in Libya. Right there alone he could have already saved the lives of about 100,000 kids if only that money had gone to the USAID budget rather than bombs.
So with just a few examples we can blame liberals for the death of over 82 million children. And this doesn’t even begin to address the casualties resulting from their myriad failed urban policies over the decades. The Democrats are virtual killing machines, yet according to them a drop in the bucket of an ocean of federal funds will directly cause the death of 70,000 kids. And that’s what gets the headlines. Makes you wonder how many kids would be saved if only we weren’t forced to support NPR and, ironically enough, Planned Parenthood.
What’s ridiculous with these Democrats is they make it as if everything is a zero-sum game. If this $430 million is eliminated, then it’s gone forever. Well, if they care so much for the children, find that money elsewhere. In fact, if we look back at that $787 billion stimulus, they could have taken the entire pile of union payoff money and saved or created 128,134,158 lives.
