Sad news from Perth Amboy: Planned Parenthood has fired Amy Woodruff, the extremely helpful clinic manager who became famous after Live Action’s new undercover video dropped yesterday.
This is a real bummer, because you just don’t get that kind of bubbly, enthusiastic customer service from most companies these days. Woodruff went the extra mile for the customer she believed was a pimp managing underage immigrant prostitutes. She told him how to coach the girls to lie about their ages, where to take hookers under fifteen years of age – even providing him with a map at no extra charge! – and brought the phrase “waist up!” into America’s cultural lexicon while volunteering useful business advice. Try getting that level of service at your bank.
It’s not as if Planned Parenthood just tossed Amy under the bus. Wait, no, it’s exactly like that. The lavishly tax-funded abortion provider briefly tried claiming the Live Action video was a “hoax” or an “edited tape,” then gave up the charade and handed Woodruff her pink slip. “Maybe they are coming to the realization that they have a serious problem brewing,” Live Action founder Lila Rose observed mildly. It’s not as if people get fired because they fell for a hoax. Just ask Rachel Maddow.
Maybe Planned Parenthood wants to clear the decks before the next inbound volley of videos from Live Action slams into them. Life News quotes Lila Rose promising she would soon release “more evidence to law enforcement officials and the public showing that Planned Parenthood is willing to aid and abet sexual exploitation of minors and young women. As our research and evidence will show, this is not only a problem for one clinic in New Jersey – it is much broader and more endemic.” A complaint Planned Parenthood filed with the FBI in January stated that Live Action operatives visited clinics in Virginia, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Washington and Arizona. We could be in for a lot of interesting video.
Planned Parenthood is furious that Live Action has the nerve to expose them. “If these visits are part of a dirty tricks campaign, they must be condemned,” declared Stuart Schear, a Planned Parenthood official. “Falsely claiming sex trafficking to health professionals, to advance a political agenda, is an astoundingly cynical form of political activity.” Sure, folks, the people you can’t see in that video are the cynical ones. Let me know when Live Action is pulling in $17 million per year in taxpayer money, like Planned Parenthood is, and we can talk some more about cynicism.
It looks like that spigot of taxpayer cash is about to be turned off. The Politico web site reports on renewed efforts to “bar Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds.” Democrats have been reduced to wailing that the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act is somehow a “tax” on women’s “right to choose,” as Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) put it.
Meanwhile, Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) complained that focusing on abortion funding would distract Republicans from the important task of repairing the damage Democrats have done to the national economy. “I’m surprised, given that the number one issue right now is jobs, that the Republican leadership would make an extreme position like [the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act] one of their top three priorities of the session,” she told Politico. Hey, Republicans aren’t the ones who just took Amy Woodruff’s job away.
It looks like the New Jersey Attorney General, Paula Dow, will investigate the incident taped by Live Action. NJ.com reports a statement from Dow in which she says “At first glance, I find these allegations to be very disturbing.” I’ve glanced at that Live Action video dozens of times, and it’s still very disturbing.
The sensational horror of the Kermit Gosnell saga has turned over a lot of rocks in the abortion industry. It exists in a dead zone, at the intersection of ideology, power, and vast sums of money. It’s exactly the kind of callous, politically-connected industrial nightmare that liberals imagine all private companies to be. If Planned Parenthood was truly concerned about professionalism, the law, and the health of women and children, they wouldn’t denounce Live Action. They’d hire them as quality assurance experts. Based on the video from Perth Amboy, it looks like their people skills are fabulous, but everything else is appalling.
