The elites in Washington just don‚??t get it. Senate and House conservatives have started down the road of reining in out-of-control federal spending and earmarking, yet the Senate is on the verge of considering a so called “Omnibus Spending Bill” for the year loaded with $1 billion in funding for the unconstitutional Obamacare law and special pork barrel projects. This $1.25 trillion Omnibus Spending bill should be renamed the ‚??Earmark-bus Spending Bill‚?Ě because it has almost 2,000 pages of earmarks, new spending and liberal programs.
This appropriations bill is Washington telling the Tea Party movement and conservative voters to take a hike. They don‚??t care what you think and in these last few hours of the Congress. Many members who were given walking papers by the American people are exacting revenge against the voters. This is an outrage, and the American people need to stand up and say “hell no.”
The Senate is preparing to take up this one appropriations bill to fund the government for fiscal¬† 2011.¬† This Congress never completed a budget and never passed one appropriations bill for this fiscal year to date. Now, in the last days of this Congress, the House and Senate have decided to pass all of the appropriations bills for the year as quickly as possible. They want to pass it quickly so the American people don‚??t have time to figure out that Washington elites are trying to pass on more debt to the American public.
The House passed a bloated Continuing Resolution that funds the government to Sept. 30, 2011.  Not to be outdone, the Senate has used this as an opportunity to roll out a secretly drafted Earmark-bus spending bill that House Democrat appropriators crafted with the help of some Senate Republican appropriators. They are using a parliamentary tactic to pass this monstrosity this week.
The Earmark-bus contains more than $1 billion in Obamacare funding. Even though mandates have been the subject of numerous court challenges, this bill funds new insurance mandates to the tune of about $80 million. A provision contains a sweet Montana earmark for $300,000 to the Center for Asbestos Related Disease.
The Commerce Justice State chapter of this appropriations measure is loaded with at least $600 million in earmarks and the Energy and Water chapter has $1.1 billion in earmark spending. This bill in total is way over budget and there are rumors that Democratic Sen. Daniel Akaka sneaked in a provision to set the stage for a race based Native Hawaiian government in Hawaii.
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) stood up against this bill and declared “the attempt by Democrat leadership to rush through a nearly 2,000-page spending bill in the final days of the lame-duck session ignores the clear will expressed by the voters this past election. This bill is loaded up with pork projects and should not get a vote. Congress should listen to the American people and stop this reckless spending.” Sen. Thune is spot-on.
Brian Baker, president of Taxpayers Against Earmarks, told Human Events: “It is outrageous that these senators are trying to steal the last bit of goodies on their last days in office. Given what this bill is funding, the legacy of outgoing Republican senators who support this bill is that they are voting for the president‚??s health care bill and earmarks.” Baker is right. A lame-duck Senate should take a walk on this terrible idea and go home before it does more damage to the Republic.
