After the GOP’s wildly successful 1994 election, when the “Contract with America” propelled them to a historic victory, Bill Clinton famously moderated his tone and worked with Republicans to reform welfare, cut spending, and lower taxes. Heck, even though BJ Bill originally scoffed at those Republican proposals, he quickly adopted portions of them and even took ownership of the success. In essence, Clinton’s highest aspiration was political survival, not ideology.
What about Obama?
